Tokyo Olympics; the most depressing Olympics of all time
If you are a sports fan like me, I’m sure when the Olympics come around every four years, you are gripped to your screens with excitement. The Games are so special. When it was in London in 2012, as a fan watching, it gave me one of the most incredible sporting memories of my life — held in my home town as well. Just the buzz around the country and the nation getting behind Team GB. It was just astonishing.
Which is why I feel desperately sorry for the Japanese. This was their chance to enjoy possibly a once in a lifetime home Olympics. It was all taken away due to Covid. And as the Olympics draw to a close, without the fans, it has lacked a sparkle. In the footballing world, former Manchester United manager, Sir Matt Busby once said, “Football is nothing without fans.” The same can be echoed about sports in general; sports is nothing without fans.
Having watched the opening ceremony and most of the events, it has been lifeless without the spectators. So should the games have been postponed further or cancelled altogether?
